Start with one sentence

A gentle way past the blank page, without finding the perfect words.

Make the beginning small

A blank page can feel like a request to explain your whole life. You can give it a much smaller job. Choose one moment, one thought, or one thing you noticed today. Write a sentence about it. That can be your entire entry.

Try a plain opening: ‘Today felt busy.’ Or: ‘I keep thinking about that conversation.’ You don’t need an introduction or a conclusion. You’re making a place for a thought, in words that sound like you.

Follow one thought

If you want to keep going, ask yourself one question: what made that stand out? Describe what happened before trying to explain it. Specific details—a place, a phrase, an action—give you something to return to.

You can write in short notes or full paragraphs. If a prompt doesn’t fit today, take a pause and come back to it. A useful entry is one you can recognize yourself in, even if it feels unfinished.

Leave a place to return

Before you stop, you might leave yourself a sentence for next time: ‘I’d like to come back to…’ It gives your next session a starting point, without asking you to solve anything now.

In Xonws, your writing saves as you go. Check the save status before closing your tab. When you return, you can continue from your last step. Small entries count as writing, too.
