Questions, answered.
Everything you need to find your starting point, feel at home, and keep your writing safe.
Getting started
What is Xonws?
Xonws is a private writing space with four guided journals. Thoughtful prompts help you explore your past, present patterns and strengths, and plans for the future.
Which journal should I start with?
Choose the part of your life that feels most useful to explore today. Faults focuses on patterns you want to change, Virtues on your strengths, Future on goals, and Past on your story. There’s no required order.
Do I need an account?
You can explore the program descriptions and read articles without an account. Sign in to enroll in a journal, access its exercises, and save your writing. After signing in, you’ll set up or unlock your private journal vault.
How much time should I set aside?
Write at your own pace. You can spend a few minutes on one prompt or settle in for longer. The program duration is an estimate, and you don’t need to finish a journal in one sitting.
Writing & saving
Does my writing save automatically?
Edits save after about a second of inactivity and when you move between steps. Check the save status before closing your tab. If a save fails, keep the tab open and use the retry option. Browser recovery stores encrypted pending drafts when available.
Can I pause and come back later?
Yes. Open My journals and choose Continue writing, or use Resume journal for your most recent unfinished journal. You can revisit previous steps and edit your answers.
Can I use Xonws offline?
Opening the app requires a connection. Browser draft recovery can help protect pending edits during an interruption, but Xonws is not a fully offline app. Wait for your writing to save once your connection returns.
Can I download my writing?
You can export readable Markdown from your journal’s summary and use your browser’s print option to save a PDF. Downloaded or printed copies are readable, so store them somewhere private.
Privacy & access
Who can read my journal?
After you set up encryption, your writing is encrypted in your browser before upload. We do not receive your journal passphrase or recovery key. While unlocked, writing is readable on your device. Account details, enrolled programs, timestamps, and milestone percentages remain visible to the service. The Privacy page explains the full boundaries.
Why do I have a separate journal passphrase?
Signing in gives you access to your account. Your journal passphrase unlocks your encrypted writing. Keeping these separate means resetting your login password or signing in with Google does not unlock your journals.
What if I forget my journal passphrase?
Use your recovery key on the unlock page. Keep that key safely outside your browser. If both your passphrase and recovery key are lost, we cannot recover your writing. A login-password reset will not unlock it.
Why did my journals lock?
Journals lock on reload, sign-out, manual lock, or after 15 minutes of inactivity. Sign in if needed, then use your journal passphrase or recovery key to unlock them again.
Can I delete my account?
Account deletion is available in your profile and removes active account and journal records. Retained backups and copies you already downloaded have separate lifetimes. Export any writing you want to keep before deleting your account.
